چکیده

Significance We demonstrate the need to detect and track unexpected substances in atmosphere locate their sources. Here, we report on three hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) that have no known end-uses. HCFC-132b ( C mathvariant="normal">H 2 mathvariant="normal">l mathvariant="normal">F ) is newly discovered global atmosphere. identify East Asia as dominant source region for emissions of this compound HCFC-133a 3 ). also quantify HCFC-31 ClF). These compounds are most likely emitted intermediate by-products chemical production processes. The early discovery identification such can related industrial practices help develop manage environmental policies reduce unwanted potentially harmful before scale problem becomes more costly mitigate.

Emissions of Substitutes for Ozone-depleting Substances

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) are emitted from a number of end use sectors in which they substitute for ozone-depleting substances. These include refrigeration, air conditioning, aerosol applications, fire suppression, foam blowing, sterilants, and solvents. Emissions of these gases may occur within a year of sale or gradually over several ye...

Ozone-Depleting Substances: Alternatives

Surrounding the earth at a height of about 25 kilometers is the stratosphere, rich in ozone, which prevents the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV-B) rays from reaching the earth. UV-B rays have an adverse effect on all living organisms, including marine life, crops, animals and birds, and humans. In humans, UV-B is known to affect the immune system; to cause skin cancer, eye damage, and cataracts; ...

Evaluation of Atmospheric Processes for Ozone Formation from Vehicle Emissions

The factors involved in evaluations of effects of volatile organic compound (VOC) and oxides of nitrogen emissions from motor vehicles on ground-level ozone are reviewed. The chemical basis for ozone formation, the computer models and chemical mechanisms used for predicting ozone impacts, and methods for quantifying differences among VOCs in their ozone impacts, are discussed. It is recommended...

The impact of traffic emissions on atmospheric ozone and OH: results from QUANTIFY

To estimate the impact of emissions by road, aircraft and ship traffic on ozone and OH in the present-day atmosphere six different atmospheric chemistry models have been used. Based on newly developed global emission inventories for road, ship and aircraft emission data sets each model performed sensitivity simulations reducing the emissions of each transport sector by 5%. The model results ind...
